Back in late August, I was excited to take advantage of my husband’s expertise to learn more about what to expect playing around in cold water with a drysuit (he’s a former rescue diver with the Calgary Fire Department). Unfortunately, my initial plans were thwarted because he got stranded in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan because of a last minute directive that grounded the fleet (now he flies planes with the Canadian Air Force). I finally got a chance to catch up with him and this is what I learned…

September 2022 (I think)

It’s been a little while since my last update, but that’s because so many exciting things have been happening that I haven’t had time to post! Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who has helped me pass $2000 in donations. Wow! I am honoured and grateful for your support. Preparations continue in earnest – I have now booked my flights to Norway, paid the balance of the boat costs and, as you will see in the video, upgraded my gear (thanks Aqua Dive and Watersports in Calgary, Alberta).

Over the last two weekends we have started meeting as groups to talk about the expeditions in earnest, and having the first meeting of the science group. It’s pretty humbling to be surrounded by such accomplished and inspiring women – I’m so pumped to be able to help with the great research that is going to be happening.

I also finally got time to chat drysuits with my husband, Kyle. I am very glad that there will be so many expert divers and snorkelers on the trip, but I am grateful for any advice I can get, so taking advantage of my “connections”. The video is pretty long, but I hope you take the time to watch Kyle tell us about his experience with diving, drysuits, and his time playing around in cold water with the Calgary Fire Department.

Once again, a huge thank you to everybody who has offered their support so far and shared my campaign – I couldn’t do this without you.
