I have been very bad at keeping up to date with my posts on here and transferring updates from my GoFundMe page, but as we get closer to the expedition, I’ve had people ask me why they can’t see some of my posts on my website as I had promised, so I am going to finally transfer them over. This is one of my earliest posts about the expedition, not long after one of my earlier meetings with Sea Women Expeditions Founder and Expedition Leader, Susan Eaton, where we first started talking about calculating and offsetting our emissions.

August 2022

A week or so ago, I had a great conversation with our expedition leader – and founder and leader of Sea Women Expeditions – Susan Eaton, and one of the things we talked about was putting together a greenhouse gas calculator for the expedition, so we can look into purchasing appropriate offsets. Given the mission of Sea Women, I think it’s really important that we account for – and offset if we can – our own expedition emissions, so I am really grateful to Susan for suggesting it. And, given my past life calculating and reporting greenhouse gas emissions, I offered to take this on. So, for something a little bit different for this week’s update, I thought I’d put together a little primer video on how greenhouse gas emissions are typically calculated. Hopefully I will be able to follow up later with the results of the calculations and how we go about choosing appropriate offsets.
